James Muldoon

James Muldoon is a Research Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute and Affiliated Fellow at Yale Law School. His research examines how modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital platforms can create public value and serve the common good. It explores how notions of freedom, power and democracy need to be rethought in a digital age and what we can do to harness the positive potential of new technology.


Muldoon's non-academic writing has appeared in the Guardian, BBC, LA Times, Time Magazine, and the Sydney Morning Herald


His most recent book is Love Machines: How Artificial Intelligence is Transforming Our Relationships, published by Faber in 2026. He is also co-author of Feeding the Machine: The Hidden Human Labour Powering AI, co-authored with Callum Cant and Mark Graham and published by Canongate in 2024.
