An exciting entry-level opportunity to join the foreign rights department of a dynamic, transatlantic literary agency.
The London office of Janklow & Nesbit is looking for an enthusiastic and well-organised Rights Assistant to assist the Senior Rights Manager and Rights Manager, and to provide broader administrative support for the foreign rights team in selling translation rights for Janklow & Nesbit authors represented both out of London and New York (fiction, non-fiction, children?s and YA).
The individual we are looking for needs to be highly organised, with exceptional attention to detail, and able to juggle and prioritise multiple responsibilities at once. A team player with strong interpersonal skills who takes initiative (and notes!). Experience and skill with systems necessary, as well as an interest in the global book market. Fluency in another language would be a bonus, as would previous experience within the publishing industry. As with all jobs in publishing, the candidate should have a passion for books!
Key activities
- Drafting and processing contracts
- Invoicing, monitoring and chasing payments (as well as applying for tax exemption forms on behalf of our authors)
- Database maintenance
- Preparing catalogues and schedules for book fairs and other international trips
- Liaising with authors
- Reading and reviewing manuscripts
Salary: ?23k with a review after six months.
Academic requirements: A degree in any field ? arts or sciences.
