Janklow & Nesbit UK are delighted to welcome Nathaniel and Mairi to the foreign rights team. Nathaniel joins us from Hachette where he was head of rights at Headline and in August, Mairi will move from A M Heath where she is currently a rights agent. Ellis Hazelgrove, who has been at Janklow & Nesbit since 2018, has been promoted to senior rights manager. Director Will Francis said: "We can?t wait to start working with Nathaniel and Mairi, who bring with them deep experience from different sides of the market, literary and commercial, as well as a knowledge of both agenting and publishing. Golnoosh Nour's powerful collection of stories THE MINISTRY OF GUIDANCE has been longlisted for the Polari Book Prize. The Polari Prize celebrates LGBTQ+ literature and is the first and largest award to do so in the UK. The Polari Prize has two categories, one for emerging writers, and one for already established authors. Paul Burston, Polari Salon founder, said: ?Between them, these two longlists showcase the very best in LGBTQ+ writing talent in the UK today. This Pride month, these are books which tell our truths and are truly worth celebrating.? The two shortlists will be announced on Wednesday 28 July 2021. ?

We are thrilled to share that Kathy O'Shaughnessy has won this year's The Paul Torday Prize for her "beautifully conceived and cleverly executed..." debut novel. Who was the real George Eliot? IN LOVE WITH GEORGE ELIOT is a glorious debut novel which tells the compelling story of England's greatest woman novelist as you've never read it before.

Ed Yong has been awarded the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting for his coverage of the coronavirus pandemic in The Atlantic. He has continued to write definitive and nuanced pieces on the dangers of the pandemic and how the American Government failed in its response. His article How the Pandemic Will End is The Atlantic's most read story. The Pulitzer Board recognised Yong ?for a series of lucid, definitive pieces on the COVID-19 pandemic that anticipated the course of the disease, synthesized the complex challenges the country faced, illuminated the U.S. government?s failures, and provided clear and accessible context for the scientific and human challenges it posed.? The George Polk Award for science reporting, the Victor Cohn Prize for medical-science reporting and the Neil and Susan Sheehan Award for investigative journalism are among other awards to recognise Yong for his reporting across the pandemic. He was named by Poynter as "the most important and impactful journalist of 2020."

We're immensely proud to see Elly Griffiths, Andrew Harding and Becky Cooper shortlisted for this year's CWA Dagger Awards. Elly Griffiths is nominated for the CWA Gold Dagger for best crime novel with THE POSTSCRIPT MURDERS. Andrew Harding's THESE ARE NOT GENTLE PEOPLE and Becky Cooper's WE KEEP THE DEAD CLOSE are both up for the CWA ALCS Gold Dagger Award for non-fiction. Winners will be announced 1st July during a virtual awards ceremony.

We're delighted to see two of our brilliant authors, Kiran Millwood Hargrave and Kathy O'Shaughnessy shortlisted in this year's The Society Of Author's Awards. THE MERCIES by Kiran Millwood Hargrave is shortlisted for the The Betty Trask Prize and Awards which awards authors under 35 for a first novel. Kathy O'Shaughnessy's IN LOVE WITH GEORGE ELIOT is shortlisted for the Paul Torday Memorial Prize which is presented for first novels by authors over 60. The winners will be announced online on Wednesday 9 June 2021, during an online ceremony presented by novelist Joanne Harris and will be sponsored by the Authors? Licensing & Collecting Society (ALCS).

We're proud to announce that Tsedal Neeley's compelling and essential Remote Work Revolution has been made a finalist for Next Big Idea Club's Spring 2021 must-read non-fiction titles. Next Big Idea Club brings readers the most groundbreaking books every season with each title being picked by their curators, Malcolm Gladwell, Susan Cain, Adam Grant and Daniel Pink. We are delighted to see Xiaolu Guo's beautifully tender A Lover's Discourse longlisted for The Orwell Prize for political fiction. A Lover's Discourse is an exploration of romantic love told through fragments of conversations between the two lovers. Playing with language and the cultural differences that her narrator encounters as she settles into life in a post-Brexit Britain, Xiaolu Guo shows us how this couple navigate these differences, and their romance, whether on their unmoored houseboat or in a stifling flatshare in east London, or journeying through other continents together... Suffused with a wonderful sense of humour, this intimate and tender novel asks universal questions: what is the meaning of home when we've been uprooted? How can a man and woman be together? And how best to find solid ground in a world of uncertainty? The Orwell Prizes celebrate the writing and reporting which best meets the spirit of George Orwell's own ambition 'to make political writing into an art'. Nearly 25,000 copies of Football School: 20 Fantastic Football Stories will be distributed by The National Literacy Trust and the Premier League.
