Anna Smaill

Anna Smaill was born in Auckland in 1979. She completed her PhD at University College London and is the author of one book of poetry (The Violinist in Spring, VUP 2005). Her poetry has been published and anthologised in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. She spent the last ten years working and studying in Tokyo and London, and now lives in Wellington, New Zealand with her husband, novelist Carl Shuker, and their daughter.

Her debut novel, The Chimes, was longlisted for The Man Booker Prize in 2015; her second, Bird Life, was published by Scribe in 2023.
