Dr Caroline Dodds Pennock
Dr Caroline Dodds Pennock is Senior Lecturer in International History at the University of Sheffield, and is the UK's only Aztec historian. Her academic study of Aztec human sacrifice, Bonds of Blood (Palgrave Macmillan) won the Royal Historical Society?s Gladstone Prize in 2008. She has appeared on history series on the BBC, Netflix and other channels, and has written for BBC History Magazine, History Today, and Scientific American. She has also been a guest on In Our Time on Radio 4 and on the You're Dead to Me podcast. Her first book — On Savage Shores: How America Discovered the World — was published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in 2023; it was chosen as a Book of the Year by the New Statesman, the Smithsonian Magazine, BBC History Magazine and Waterstones.
