Matteo Civaschi
It was 1985 when Matteo Civaschi, after seeing the cover of Van Halen's album, decided to dedicate his life to the art and graphic design and started to draw anything and everything. He received a scholarship from the European Social Fund which gave him the opportunity to study at the Nuova Accademia delle Belle Arti in Milan.
In 2004 Matteo founded H-57, firstly as a clothing brand, and after as a design and motion graphic studio and laboratory. He achieved success in 2010 when he launched the project 'The Force of Typography' for StarWars (Lucasfilm).
In 2011, 'Shortology' was born: an artistic movement and creative project based on representation through a few icons in infographics of stories, famous people and current events. During the year, Shortology achieved fame with 20 books published globally. Thanks to Shortology, Matteo won a Cannes Lion Award for design for Life in Five Seconds and won gold at the Epica Awards with the book Film in Five Seconds.
As well as creative director, author and artist, he was a speaker at TEDx, Wired, University of Roma 'La Sapienza', Malofiej (Infographic World Summit) and other national and international design and storytelling conferences.
Today, Matteo has joined NABA and IED as a teacher on the Art Direction course.
